This year an advert for a coral reef survey spiked my interest and I decided to get back in the water after 19 years. I have since been diving nearly every week and will soon be studying for my Rescue Diver course and hopefully dive master. What an amazing world it is under water! We are very lucky to have a volcanic mountain range under the waves not far from our base, with swim through’s, huge rock walls, caves and a vast array of life from Nudibranchs to rays, anchovy’s to hunting fish like Dentons and everything in between.
Creating opportunities to spend time in, on and around water is a big part of Coastal Cleaners Andalucia's mission, as I believe we protect the things we love. If you would like to give diving a go, I can help arrange taster dives, qualifications and excursions. Simply send me a message to get started. Everything is professionally run and taken in stages, all equipment and insurances are either provided or arranged as necessary.
I also wanted to encourage someone else to help spread the message and raise awareness of the issues facing maring life in this area within the local community and so I linked the 2 and created project 'Let's dive'
The basic idea is that CCA will pay for a young, local person to qualify as an Open Water Diver. Allowing them to experience the beauty of the underwater world on our doorstep and in return they help to take the message back to the local community and their peers.
To raise the money I took on a personal challenge, I decided not to drink alcohol for a year....which is quite some feat compared to my regular intake at the time.
