We at CCA think efforts should be rewarded. An increasing number of companies big and small are choosing to reduce their environmental impact, leading by example with both the products they produce and those they use. The importance of this cannot be underestimated, many people feel over whelmed by the current situation and seeing businesses take steps to be part of the solution can really help to show the wider public that we can all make the effort.
The ‘Coastal Cleaners Approved Venue’ Scheme mainly focuses on food and drink establishments, outlining a check list of 10 eco-friendly practices. If a business regularly achieves 7/10 from the list then a CCA Approved rating for that year is given and a specially designed logo can be displayed.
Paper or biodegradable drinking straws are used (when a straw is requested)
Glass water bottles (often provided on a returnable/deposit basis, many suppliers of drinks now offer this service)
Glass, plastic, aluminium and paper waste is separated & appropriately recycled (Including packaging)
Sugar sachets are paper rather than plastic.
Sauces are provided in glass bottles or in dishes rather than individual single use sachets.
Customers are given Finger bowls rather than wet wipes to clean their hands after finger food (ribs, prawns, chicken wings etc)
Food is served on plates and bowls which are washed and reused and metal cutlery is also used, not plastic, including for tapas and buffets.
Place mats and table coverings are material, wipe able or paper rather than the woven plastic ‘disposable’ sort.
Butter is sliced from a block, rather than in individual plastic sachets.
Decorations for Special occasions and events are reusable/natural (examples include: flowers, candles, napkins, wooden or paper decorations) Specifically Balloons are avoided.
The most important factor is that the intention to care about the environment where possible is there. Quite often this comes with additional financial costs and inconvenience to the establishment, so every effort made is appreciated.
